Many photographers, probably intuitively, are looking for the same themes on the street. They look for candid situations with high chance of success to get interesting image. I have mine mini-serieses as well.

Shooting with Gary Stochl 1 comment
When we have great weather in Chicago I try to take some pictures before boarding the train to my suburb. One day I noticed that at the end of the day, the bright sun shines like projector through the entrance of the station. It makes an incredible contrast and long shadows.
So, while I am enjoying second day at the same location, I saw another photographer, with a classic Leica on his neck, had the same idea. I took one shot of him and, since he obviously saw, I decided to introduce myself. His name is Gary. I thought for a moment about the coincidence of having the same name as Garry Winogrand. Gary was shooting for a week, taking advantage of this amazing light. I asked for permission and took another picture of him.
That would be the end of the story if I had not replied in the street photography forum with the link to my picture of Gary. They recognized him as the Chicago based photographer, Gary Stochl. It did not take long to find out that this was indeed Gary Stochl – an incredible photographer with a remarkable life story.

Street photography with Promaster 60-300 f/4~5.6 Leave a comment
This is the oldest and the cheapest lens that I have. My wife bought me this glass as a gift fifteen year ago for about $300. At that time it was very expensive for us.
I almost never used it. Oddly, I thought that having such expensive zoom I should stay with Pentax brand. This is the classic example how wrong reasons lead to great decisions.
Now, when I do candid street photography, this lens has the second life. I even bought rubber hood for it. It is fun to take quick snapshots using pull-push for zoom and manual focus. With some practice you can operate it pretty fast. Image quality is good enough.
Pentax’s in-body image stabilization technology works great with this stuff too. Usually, I configured it for 200mm. When I am in the mood for long range hunting I have fun with Promaster 60-300.
